Providing Austin event photography for the national TAPS organization’s Texas Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp
Earlier this year, I was honored to be able to be part of a team of photographers covering an event for an amazing organization. TAPS is a support organization that comes along side families that have lost a military loved one. Since TAPS began, they’ve been able to provide comfort through a round-the-clock peer support program pro bono to over 70,000 survivor families.
During this event held at Camp Maybry in Austin, survivor children and their mentors spent the morning at Good Grief Camp which, as you can tell from all the happy faces, was a fun series of events. A couple of players and several cheerleaders of the Texas Toros came all the way from Houston to give some football tips and sign autographs. Local grocery chain HEB provided staff to help man the event plus lots of ice-cold water and an amazing bbq lunch (it was super yummy brisket and coleslaw).
It was such a treat to get to see the kids enjoying time with their peers and mentors. Their mentors, as I understood it, were in the military themselves so it was pretty heartwarming to know how much our men and women in the armed forces give back in so many ways.
