Each year, the Tim Tebow Foundation puts on an event called Night To Shine. Over 650 churches world-wide host a prom for special needs teens through adults. There are small armies of volunteers that take care of so many details: coat check, welcoming crew, check-ins, boutonniere pinning, corsage picking, dance-partnering, karaoke-ing, etc. So many come together to bless an often under-served part of the community.
This was the second year in a row that I got to work along with a couple of other photographers, to photograph the event. And it was an event packed with events!
The guests are dropped off by their parents or caregivers. This year, they were greeted by two of the cutest alpacas! Willie and Waylon of Texas Party Animals were all dressed up to say hi and for selfies or portraits. Such a cute way to start off the night!
After saying hi to the cutest alpacas ever, everyone got to pick out a corsage or boutonniere to wear, sign a cut-out star in the craft room, offered a chance for hair touchup, makeup or cologne to finish getting ready. Once all the getting ready is said and done, time to start the party!
A short walk and welcome on the red carpet is followed by crowning and cheery welcome announcing their names and a short side step to the photo booth. Lots more to do right away: chocolate fountain, karaoke, video games, a respite/sensory room for relaxing if needed. Dinner and dancing followed soon after a short message and prayer by the pastor. Catered goodies and cake were thoroughly enjoyed!
