A proposal and engagement session at the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX
There was so much planning that went into Carl’s proposal to Heather. Carl confessed to being a creative soul, and he went all out for Heather. Before the big day, he carefully crafted an album full of great moments they shared together. Besides that, he put together a “menu,” listing the same phrase, “will you marry me,” in different languages. Not random: they spent time all over the world during their time in service in the Army.
The idea was this: he picks her up from the airport and tells her they’re going to get something to eat, but then head to the Driskill to check-in. After she freshens up, he leads her upstairs to one of the hotel balconies where a table for two is set up with the album and a menu just for her. He has her take a seat, and they pour over the first few photographs together and reminisce. Then Carl tells Heather to keep looking and save the menu for last while he steps out for a bit. Once he sees she’s going through the menu and flips it over to the back, he steps back on the balcony, gets on one knee, and proposes. That’s the idea. And the execution ended up perfectly!
And the result: Yes! Of course.
Carl and Heather were so generous with their time to us, and we had the chance to capture images for their engagement session. The Driskill’s classic interior framed them so nicely, and there were a variety of backdrops within a few short blocks.
The Driskill staff were phenomenal! They wanted to make sure things were perfect for Carl and Heather, so things were prepared well in advance. The balcony was just ideal and lined up with Carl’s plans perfectly. Because of the enormous windows, it wasn’t hard for us to be hidden in plain sight, so to speak. Once you’re on the balcony, all that outdoor light causes reflections on the glass, so it made it easy for us. With everything taken care of, they got to focus on each other entirely.
