So now: Farwa and Ali’s Austin mehndi. It’s been an amazing thing to get to be the photographer who recorded their nikkah among other events that made up their traditional Pakistani wedding. It was fascinating to observe the mix of tradition and religious elements. And one thing that was a common thread in all their events: sweets! Delicious!
The similarities went beyond sweets: like at the nikkah, there were may gifts brought for the couple. One charming tradition that they included was a few of the men and boys in her family playfully took hold of Ali. A “ransom” had to be paid before they would let him go.
The color palette of Farwa’s dress just fits this fall season so opportunities for bridal photos were awesome. Once Ali arrived at the venue, things happened quickly! There was the sound of joyful greetings and lots of kids—they’re the best at weddings—and laughter all around. Later in the day we found an unexpected spot for photos of the two of them that I just love. These two are just such a joy, though. The spot may have been a happy find but it really was them and their interaction that truly made the photos.
Farwa and Ali: you and yours are the most gracious, real and lovely people.
Their traditional mendhi ceremony was quite a different experience to photograph. They’re always fun, lots of goings-on to keep us on our toes! and the color! Oh my goodness, so much, it was a visual feast. If you know someone who is getting married and is looking for a photography team to help them capture all the memories, send them my way!
Shoutout must go to Special Day Beauty. Latasha’s work is amazing!
