All this time, I assumed that the first rite of passage I would get to photograph would be a quinceñera, but it turns out to be something just as exciting: a bar mitzvah.
My sister-in-law connected me with Avi’s mom, Liza. When she found out we would be in San Diego I got the job. Their family is faithful to keep work out of the Sabbath celebration so all the photos had to be done before sundown the day before. We headed to the home where the party would be held for some family time and then the synagogue for more photos of Avi being, well…Avi 🙂
The bar mitzvah is a huge deal for the family; grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles flew from all over to be with Avi on his big day.
My favorite shot:
I hope I get to do this again when Rafi turns 13.
